Supplies:
- 5" Square cardstock, double sided
- Paper straw
- 18 gauge wire
- Wire cutter
- Scissors
- Glue gun
- 5/8” circle punch
- Rosary or Flat Pliers
- 1/8” hole punch
You can make your pinwheel any size. As long as the paper is a square, you can make them big or small!
1. Cut an 18 gauge piece of wire to 9". I purchased a package of 20 pieces of 18 gauge floral stem wire from Michael's for $1.50. These are 18" and need to be cut in half. With one package you can make 40 pinwheels!
2. Measuring down 3" on the wire, bend the wire to form a "L".
3. Holding the 3” portion of the wire, run a bead of hot glue along the longer 6” edge about halfway down the wire.
5. Squeeze a dab of glue into the top opening of the straw to “finish” the top edge and add hold.
6. Mark the center of your square. Measure a 1/2” away from the center then draw a line to each outside corner.
7. Cut on the drawn lines. Then using a 5/8” hole punch make holes in each right hand corner. If you don’t have a small hole punch you can use the tip of your wire to poke holes in each corner.
8. Using your wire poke a hole through the center of your square. Then take the corners and feed them through the wire using the punched hole. Don’t crease the folds. You can put the corners on the wire in any order.
9. Punch a small circle in a coordinating color using a 1/2” circle punch or cut out a small circle with scissors. Using the wire poke a hole in the center of the small circle and put it on the front of the pinwheel.
